UNIVERSITIES IN MALAYSIA ARE NOT WORLD CLASS

The WORLD BANK HAS RECOGNISED THIS PROBLEM, AND HAS WRITTEN  A BOOK WHICH IMPLY THAT “ RACE POLITICS AND POLITICS LED TO FALLING UM STANDARDS “

A study of the ranking of world Universities will show the status of Universities in countries of the world.  Ranking is done by legitimate organisations like Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking, Shanghai Jiao Jong University and QS World University Rankings.

   Findings:
For Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking 400.
No Malaysian University was listed in Top 400.

                 Shanghai Jiao Tong University Ranking.
No Malaysian Universiti was noted in the 400 world Universities.

                 QS World University Ranking
Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra and Universiti Sains were listed under the English
FACULTY. No Malaysian Universities were listed under Sciences, Engineering or Medicine.

NO BONA FIDE UNIVERSITI IN MALAYSIA WAS RANKED EITHER IN THE TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION UNIVERSITIES RANKING, or the SHANGHAI JIAO TONG UNIVERSITI RANKING.

THIS MEANS THAT MALAYSIA HAS NO WORLD CLASS UNIVERSITIES IN THE COUNTRY  !!!

Where before we could find better known and long established Universities like Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains on the lists of international ranking institutions, today not one Malaysian Universiti is honoured on the ranking list. This is heart breaking for the students, the academia, the people and the nation.  This is shameful and an absolute disaster.  A second class Universiti will not be able to attract top academics to join our faculties, nor will we be able to attract good local and international students.

The Universities must be top class to produce top class graduates who will be the researchers, engineers, managers and technologists to build up the country to be a high income state.

DAP and NGOs have been pointing out the declining standards in the Universities, but the government and education authorities paid no notice and stuck to their policies.

The question will be asked.  Why have our one time top Universities like Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Penang and Universiti Kebangsaan have become second rate?

THE WORLD BANK MIGHT HAVE AN ANSWER.  THEIR RESEARCHERS HAVE IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEMS AND THE CAUSES.

WORLD BANK ADVICE SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  THEIR STUDY identified the NEP as the factor for deteriorating academic standards by filling all the posts with bumiputras without regard for efficiency and proficiency and student admissions on a racial basis rather than merit and competence,

The World Bank study points out that the policies of the Singapore University should be emulated, if the aim is to have world class Universities in Malaysia...

Following the NEP system will turn our Universities to second rate institutions which will continue to churn out graduates who become unemployable, instead of graduates with talent and confidence to face challenges of society and be leaders in the new global world.
